In the summer months you need to observe the restrictions on the small section of beach near the main car parks. From Owlers Retreat take a left out of the gate and take the first left down second avenue. Walk through the park until you get to the beach past the Suttons.

For the beach towards Rye, take a left out of the gate and follow Sea Road to the end where it joins the Old Lydd road. Turn left along the Old Lydd road and follow this until you reach the grassy car park on the left. Head straight across the car park to the far left corner. Take the path on the left. You then have the choice to head straight onto the beach or to  turn left to head across the golf course through a wooden kissing gate.

Combining the beach here with the golf course is a beautiful 3 mile circular walk that takes in the estuary with view towards the Rye Harbour Nature reserve.
